Position: Substitute Teacher
Supervised By: Principal
Primary Responsibility
To provide quality instruction that enables each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.
Qualifications
Substitute Teachers shall meet the following minimum qualifications:
(1) be 18 years of age (21 years of age preferred);
(2) be of good moral character and have demonstrated the professional/ personal characteristics for working effectively with students, school
personnel and the community;
(3) hold a high school diploma or GED certificate;
(4) submit a certificate signed by a licensed health professional stating the
absence of tuberculosis;
(5) pass criminal and Social Services background checks;
(6) attend annual substitute teacher training.
Responsibilities
- Reports to the school office upon arrival at the school building.
- Reviews all lesson plans and schedules to be followed prior to the students’
arrival.
- Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom.
- Teaches the lesson(s) outlined and described by the absent teacher.
- Consults with the administration or subject/grade level teachers to get a clear
understanding of the schedule and assignment.
- Assumes the responsibility for maintaining a positive and safe classroom climate
and demonstrates enthusiasm for the teaching and learning process.
- Practices and promotes positive interaction with and among students.
- Practices confidentiality and complies with school board policies and regulations.
- Completes the Substitute Assessment Form and leaves it for the regular teacher.
Terms of Employment
Annual appointment for a 180-day school year on an as-needed basis.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated, annually.
