QUALIFICATIONS:            1.  Hold at least a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

2. Demonstrate basic reading, writing and computation skills.
3. Have previous experience with groups of children.
4. Have good physical and emotional health.

 

REPORTS TO:                     Principal and/or Classroom Teacher

 

JOB GOAL:  To assist the classroom teacher by performing tasks which are assigned and directed by the teacher.  The tasks must not infringe upon the responsibilities reserved for certified teachers.  It is vital that both the teacher and aide fully understand the limitations as well as the tasks of the aide.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. To assist teachers with instructional activities such as:

 

• Reading to children
• Assisting children in library
• Writing the dictation given by young children
• Helping children locate and use materials
• Encouraging safety habits in work and play
• Assisting children to understand and follow directions and rules
• Encouraging children to work independently
• Listening to children
• Assist small groups of children in various subject areas under the supervision of the classroom teacher
• Reinforce skills taught by the classroom teacher to small and large groups
• Help children individually with special assignments and academic problems
• Enrich classroom activities through the use of personal experiences, interests and talents
• Other instructional activities during assigned working hours

 

2. To assist teachers with routine tasks such as:

 

• Recording attendance and other information
• Collecting money
• Preparing the classroom for instruction
• Gathering resource and supplementary materials
• Setting up and operating audiovisual equipment
• Preparing instructional materials
• Other routine tasks during assigned working hours

 

3. To assist teachers on occasions such as:

 

• Fire drills
• Field trips during the assigned working hours
• Activities for parents during the assigned working hours
• Other occasions during the assigned working hours

 

4. To perform other duties as assigned by the principal and/or classroom teacher.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Ten months.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
