Position:                  Substitute Teacher

Supervised By:        Principal

 

Primary Responsibility

 

     To provide quality instruction that enables each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely  as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.

 

Qualifications

 

     Substitute Teachers shall meet the following minimum qualifications:

 

(1) be 18 years of age (21 years of age preferred);

(2) be of good moral character and have demonstrated the professional/      personal characteristics for working effectively with students, school

     personnel and the community;

(3) hold a high school diploma or GED certificate;

(4) submit a certificate signed by a licensed health professional stating the

     absence of tuberculosis;

(5) pass criminal and Social Services background checks;

(6) attend annual substitute teacher training.

Responsibilities

 

  1. Reports to the school office upon arrival at the school building.
  2. Reviews all lesson plans and schedules to be followed prior to the students’

     arrival.

  1. Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom.
  2. Teaches the lesson(s) outlined and described by the absent teacher.
  3. Consults with the administration or subject/grade level teachers to get a clear

     understanding of the schedule and assignment.

  1. Assumes the responsibility for maintaining a positive and safe classroom climate

     and demonstrates enthusiasm for the teaching and learning process.

  1. Practices and promotes positive interaction with and among students.
  2. Practices confidentiality and complies with school board policies and regulations.
  3. Completes the Substitute Assessment Form and leaves it for the regular teacher.

 

Terms of Employment

 

     Annual appointment for a 180-day school year on an as-needed basis.

 

Evaluation

 

     Performance will be evaluated, annually.
